Device insurance: cover in the event of theft, loss or damage

Be prepared for everyday accidents

Your hearing aid is with you every day. It helps you hear better, maintain social connections and feel more at ease when communicating with others. But it is also a delicate piece of equipment, vulnerable to everyday mishaps: being dropped, lost, stolen, exposed to damp, mishandled or physically damaged.

The 4-year statutory warranty covers technical faults and manufacturing defects. It does not cover loss, theft, breakage or accidental damage. With the insurance offered by Audition BAHUAUD and its partner Mark’Assur, you benefit from additional cover to ensure you remain protected in the event of the unexpected.

Everything you need to know about hearing aid insurance

The manufacturer’s warranty covers manufacturing defects and internal faults for 4 years. The insurance complements this warranty by covering everyday incidents such as loss, theft, accidental damage, moisture damage or breakage.

The price depends on the value of the appliance, the model and the cover included. On average, you can expect to pay between €89 and €116 per appliance for four years’ cover, with a deductible that decreases as the appliance gets older.

Mark’Assur is an insurer specialising in the hearing sector. With Audition BAHUAUD, you benefit from a clear policy, tailored to hearing aids, and support at our centres to help you understand the cover, take out the insurance and manage the process in the event of a claim.

In the event of loss, you must report the claim, provide the required supporting documents and wait for the claim to be assessed. Depending on the age of the device and the terms of the policy, a partial refund or a replacement may be offered. Without insurance, the National Health Service and your private health insurance will not reimburse you for a lost device, unless the four-year renewal period has been reached.

What does the insurance offered by Audition BAHUAUD, through our partner Mark’Assur, cover?

01.

Accidental loss

Whether you’ve forgotten it, dropped it, or lost it in the street, at the swimming pool or whilst out and about… the insurance covers the accidental loss of your hearing aid, subject to the terms of the policy.

02.

Flight

If your bag is snatched, your home is burgled or your hearing aid is stolen whilst you’re out and about… your hearing aid may be covered in the event of theft. You may be asked to report the incident to the police to support your claim.

03.

Accidental breakage

Falls, impacts, mishandling, pets… the insurance covers accidental damage not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.

04.

Damage not covered by the warranty

Oxidation, short circuits, cosmetic damage or incidents caused by damp may also be covered. The insurance supplements the statutory 4-year warranty, which is limited to faults and manufacturing defects.

05.

Repair or replacement

Where repair is possible, the cost is covered. Otherwise, a replacement with an identical or equivalent device may be offered, subject to the terms of the contract.

Your questions, our answers

A whistling, crackling or cut-out sound may be caused by an incorrectly positioned earpiece, a blocked microphone, a low battery or a setting that needs adjusting. Please visit the BAHUAUD Hearing Centre to have your hearing aid checked and adjusted if necessary.

Clean the tip, earpiece or earbud using the appropriate products, then check the wax filters. If the sound remains faint or muffled, having them cleaned at a service centre will prevent damage to the device.

The turnaround time depends on the fault, the model and whether the item needs to be sent to the workshop. Your BAHUAUD Hearing Centre can carry out an initial assessment and let you know the expected turnaround time.

Depending on the situation and the centre’s availability, a loan device may be offered whilst your hearing aid is being repaired. The aim is to minimise any inconvenience whilst your hearing aid is out of use.

The warranty primarily covers breakdowns or technical faults with the device. Hearing aid insurance may cover incidents such as loss, theft or accidental damage, depending on the terms of the policy.
